No taphole
A "no taphole" top has nothing pre-drilled. This is the right call when you're running wall-mounted tapware (the mixer sits on the wall above the basin, not on the vanity top) or a widespread three-hole set installed separately from the top. 12 o'clock, 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock
Where the top does need a hole for a deck-mounted single-hole mixer, position is specified relative to the basin bowl as if you're looking down at a clock face. 12 o'clock puts the tap hole centred directly behind the basin — the standard position for a bowl mounted centrally on the top. 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock offset the hole to the left or right, which is what you need when an inset or above-counter basin bowl isn't centred on the vanity width, or when the mixer needs to clear a splashback return or a narrow benchtop return. Get the offset side wrong and the tap ends up reaching over the bowl edge instead of into it.
Matching the hole to your tapware and top material
Before ordering, confirm two things: which mounting footprint your chosen mixer needs (deck-mounted single hole vs wall-mounted), and which side of the basin it needs to sit on if the bowl isn't centred.
