It's a solid, cast chrome-on-brass plug that sits in an 80mm Allproof Leak Control Flange in place of a grate, closing the waste off between uses and opening when you need the floor to drain. Why saunas and steam rooms get a plug instead of a grate
No drain smell in a room built for breathing deeply. A floor waste trap only keeps drain air out while there's water sitting in it. The plug is 80mm and fits Allproof's Leak Control Flange. The 80mm flange (LC80C) is only $7.00, comes with a construction cap, has locating lugs for the plug, and a large flange area for bonding the waterproofing membrane. Allproof designs its floor waste systems to AS/NZS 3500.2 and the AS 3740 membrane-to-drainage connection details.
The easiest way to get it right is to specify the 80mm Leak Control Flange at rough-in. Then the plug is a straight drop-in at fit-off. Allproof doesn't list the plug for other brands' flanges or 100mm wastes, so for a retrofit, check the existing waste is the 80mm Allproof flange first.

Before you specify
- Open it for wash-down. The floor still needs to drain for cleaning, and a steam generator's installation instructions may call on the floor waste for drain-down. The plug closes the waste between uses; it isn't meant to seal it permanently.
- The trap and membrane are still the trap and membrane. The gully, trap seal and membrane connection still need to be installed and compliant to AS/NZS 3500.2. Confirm with your certifier how the trap is kept charged in a room that doesn't see regular water.
- Not for overflow wastes. If a floor waste is required to catch water from a leaking or overflowing fixture, keep it as a grate.
