Water pools in low spots: a sunken courtyard, a backyard below the street, a patio that falls the wrong way, a garage slab at the bottom of a driveway. When there's no fall to a gravity drain, a small stormwater pump pit collects the water and pumps it away.
The Hyjet Minipit is a pre-assembled stormwater pit with a Class A galvanised grate and a vortex pump already plumbed in. You install the inlet on site. Per the listing, it suits low-lying backyards, construction sites and temporary setups where surface water pools.
The three sizes
| Model | Size (L x W x D) | Pump option | Outlet | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minipit 300 | 345 x 345 x 450mm | HV180-AV | 32mm | $812.85 |
| Minipit 450 | 560 x 560 x 510mm | HV180-AV | 32mm | $1,119.75 |
| HV450-AV | 40mm | $1,373.85 | ||
| Minipit 600 | 710 x 710 x 660mm | HV180-AV | 32mm | $1,373.85 |
| HV450-AV | 40mm | $1,665.35 |
All versions use a cast iron vortex pump with an automatic vertical float switch, need a 240V 10A supply, handle solids up to 25mm and water up to 40°C.
Which pump
The HV180-AV (180W, up to 133 L/min) suits a small courtyard or patio with a modest catchment. The HV450-AV (450W, up to 200 L/min) suits a bigger yard, a larger paved area or a site where the water has further to go. In both cases, check the pump curve in the datasheet at your actual lift and pipe run: max flow is only reached at near-zero head.
Which size
A bigger pit holds more water between pump starts and gives more buffer in a heavy downpour. The 300 suits small, tight spaces; the 600 suits a larger catchment or a spot where a heavy storm could overwhelm a smaller pit. The vertical float means none of them need extra width for a swinging float.
Where a Minipit isn't the right choice
- Sewage. The listing is clear: not suitable for raw sewage. Use a sewage pump station.
- Driveways and vehicle areas. The Class A grate is for non-trafficable areas.
- Big catchments. A large roof or paved area in a heavy storm may need more storage and a larger pump than a Minipit holds. See our guide to sizing a pump well for bigger jobs.
Installation
- Fit a non-return valve on the discharge so water doesn't run back into the pit.
- Discharge to a legal point of connection. Stormwater work must comply with AS/NZS 3500.3 and your council's requirements.
- Provide a weatherproof outdoor power outlet installed by a licensed electrician.
- Clear leaves and debris from the grate regularly: a blocked grate means the pit never fills, and the yard floods anyway.
For just the pump, see our guide to choosing a drainage or sump pump. All Minipits are in the Mini Pump Pits collection and available to order on backorder; contact PSA to confirm lead time.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a Hyjet Minipit be used for sewage?
No. The Minipit is for stormwater only and isn't suitable for raw sewage.
Can I put a Minipit in a driveway?
No. It has a Class A grate, which is for non-trafficable areas.
What power does a Hyjet Minipit need?
A 240V 10A supply. Outdoor power outlets should be installed by a licensed electrician.
Which Minipit pump should I choose?
The HV180-AV suits small courtyards and patios. The HV450-AV suits larger yards and paved areas, or where water has further to travel.
