Description
The Caroma M5 Outlet Valve Seal Repair Kit (405889) is the genuine Caroma replacement seal for cisterns experiencing water leaking from the tank into the bowl. Sold in a 10-pack trade quantity, this kit is the cost-effective first-line repair for any cistern fitted with a Caroma M5 outlet valve or Geberit 687152 one-piece toilet valve — eliminating the need for full valve replacement in the majority of cases.
A worn or degraded outlet valve seal is the most common cause of a continuously running toilet in Australian households. Rather than replacing the entire outlet valve mechanism, replacing the seal alone restores full cistern performance at a fraction of the cost, making this one of the highest-value repair components a maintenance plumber can carry on the van.
Compatibility
This seal is compatible with the following valve types:
- Caroma Quietflow M5 Outlet Valve (750085)
- Caroma Quietflow 2 M5 Outlet Valve (75769)
- Geberit 687152 One-Piece Toilet Valve
- Caroma Old Tasman Outlet Valve
It is also the recommended seal for any cistern previously fitted with early Caroma M5 model 750080, Duoflo Type 2 (413295) and Duoflo Type 3 (413296) outlet valves that have since been upgraded to the current M5 mechanism.
Why Plumbers Stock This Kit
A toilet that runs continuously between flushes is one of the most frequent plumbing service calls in Australia. In the majority of cases involving Caroma and Geberit ceramic cisterns, the cause is a degraded outlet valve seal rather than full valve failure. Carrying this 10-pack means the repair can be completed on the first visit without a return call, using a genuine Caroma part that restores the cistern to full specification.
Replacing the seal rather than the full outlet valve also offers a significant cost saving to the end customer — an important factor in retaining service clients and maintaining competitive labour and parts pricing on routine maintenance work.
Key Features
- Genuine Caroma part — manufactured to original specification for assured compatibility and long service life
- 10-pack trade quantity — ideal for maintenance plumbers stocking the van or service contractors managing multiple sites
- Fits Caroma M5 and Geberit valves — broad compatibility across decades of Australian ceramic cistern installations
- Addresses the most common cause of running toilets — worn seal is the primary failure point in M5-style outlet valves
- Cost-effective repair solution — restores cistern performance without full valve replacement
- Simple on-site installation — no specialist tools required, suitable for replacement during a standard service call

Diagnosing the Need for a Seal Replacement
If a cistern is running continuously or water can be heard trickling from the tank to the bowl between flushes, the outlet valve seal is the recommended first point of diagnosis. To confirm, place a small amount of food dye in the cistern tank and wait several minutes without flushing — if colour appears in the bowl, the outlet valve seal requires replacement. This test can be completed in under five minutes on-site and avoids unnecessary parts expenditure.
